The opening ceremony of Corta-Mato Nacional Escolar, scheduled for today, February 23, at 19:15 pm, in Albufeira, was canceled due to the death of Carlos Silva e Sousa, Mayor.
This ceremony was scheduled for the Palácio dos Congressos – Herdade dos Salgados, in Albufeira.
Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, Minister of Education, and João Paulo Rebelo, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, lamented, in a statement from the Ministry of Education, the death of the mayor, "providing heartfelt condolences to the family and residents of Albufeira."
Eastthe Corta-Mato Nacional race starts this Saturday, at 9:30 am, at Açoteias track, in Albufeira, where “a minute of silence and homage” will be fulfilled.
Carlos Silva and Sousa died tonight, aged 60, victim of a heart attack.
