Albufeira was the city chosen to host, this year, the National Championship of Cross Country School Sports, which will bring together around 1400 students and teachers from the north to the south of the country at the Crosse das Açoteias track.

The competition will take place on Saturday, February 24th, at 9:30 am, and will also include the Portuguese Athletics Federation's National Short Cut-Out, the National Veterans Championship and the University Sports Academic National University Corta-Mato .

Corta-Mato Nacional is one of the most emblematic events in the annual sports calendar of the School Sport Program. This school year, the competition will take place in Albufeira and counts with the presence of around 1400 students and teachers, representing the 24 Local School Sports Coordinations, from the five Regional Services Departments (North, Centre, Lisbon and Vale from the Tagus, Alentejo and Algarve) and also from the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores.

The competition is organized by the School Sports Division of the Algarve Region Services Department of the Directorate-General for Schools, under the aegis of the Directorate-General for Education.

Corta-Mato Nacional follows on from two previous phases: the School phase and the Local Coordination of School Sport phase, which involved approximately 300 students across the country.

The program, in addition to the School Sport events, will also include the Corta-MatonNacional Short of the Portuguese Athletics Federation and also the National Veterans Championship and also the National University Corta-Mato of the Academic Sports Federation.

The delegations will be received at the Opening Ceremony of the event, which will take place on February 23, Friday, at 19 pm, at the Palácio de Congressos do Algarve, at Herdade dos Salgados.
