Carlos Silva e Sousa, the 60-year-old mayor of Albufeira, died this evening at home from a heart attack.
For now, no further details are known, but the Sul Informação is following the case. Albufeira Town Council is preparing to release a note on the sad news.
Just yesterday, the mayor of Albufeira had been one of the eleven mayors of the Algarve and Alentejo to sign the joint declaration demanding the end of hydrocarbon exploration on the Portuguese coast.
Carlos Silva e Sousa was a lawyer and was in his second term at the head of Albufeira City Council, elected by the PSD. Before, he had been president of the Municipal Assembly, as well as a deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, for four years, between June 2011 and November 2015.
Carlos Eduardo da Silva e Sousa, born on April 13, 1957, had a degree in Law and, before becoming president of the municipality, he was a lawyer by profession, having held various positions linked to the Portuguese Bar Association in the Algarve region. He was also a farmer, managing family properties, namely those linked to wine production.
He was Consul of Lithuania and Vice-Consul of S. Tomé and Príncipe in the Algarve, as well as President of the Confraternity of Oenophiles and Gastronomers of the Algarve and President of the Board of Farmers of the V. Benaciate Irrigation Perimeter.
Carlos Silva e Sousa also held various positions at the party level: he was president of the PSD/Albufeira Council, vice-president of the Orange District and member of the National Council of Social Democrats.
For the moment there is no information about the place and time of the funeral and funeral ceremonies.
