Italian pasta, with kamoka (a Cape Verde flour), paneer cheese, widely used in India, Thailand or Bangladesh, sweet potatoes and sausages. this real wake up of cultures starts to be served this Thursday, November 16th, at 19:30 pm, with the first “Pasta e Basta – Um Mambo Italiano”, in the Algarve style, at the headquarters of Rancho do Rogil (Aljezur).

The concept is simple: 60 or 70 people will gather around a table to learn how to make fresh pasta. Upon arrival, the audience will be divided to "gather people who do not know each other", he explained, to the Sul Informação, Giacomo Scalisi, one of those responsible for the “Lavrar o Mar” project, one of the anchor events of “365Algarve”, of which “Pasta Basta” is a part.

"From then on, it is a task to get to know the people who are by our side, something that happens very little", he added.

In the middle will be Giacomo and André Amálio, both teaching how to cook and interpreting a story written by Afonso Cruz for “Pasta e Basta”, a show that has already been played in other Portuguese cities, such as Lisbon and Aveiro.

«The story is not easy, but it is beautiful. He speaks of this theme of interculturality in a very strong way», reveals Giacomo Scalisi. This narrative is revealed, in moments when it is necessary to wait. For example: when the dough is baking.

The protagonist of the fiction is a prisoner, sentenced to death, who decides to write his last letter to the daughter he never saw grow up. This man's last wish was to eat the three best dishes his mistress cooked and which contained everyone inside. The metaphor seems evident...

To tell the story, Giacomo will speak Italian and André Amálio Portuguese. The other two people who will participate in this “Pasta e Basta” (one from the East, the other from Africa) will speak Hindi and Creole.

With this show, one of the main goals is to “talk about interculturality”, in a metaphorical way. In other words: «creating dishes that are a true balance between cultures».

“The idea is that we can live in our society, with different cultures, but mixing them with our habits”, explained Giacomo Scalisi.

Expectations are the best. “The public participation has been great. We have a lot of tickets sold. Our experience is that people leave with a smile on their mouth». The fact of “making food with one's own hands, living with other people” helps in this equation.

The "Pasta e Basta", which integrates the programming of the "365Algarve", has screenings scheduled for November 19th, at 19:30 pm, at Rancho do Rogil headquarters, but also to Monchique, November 30th, December 1st, 2nd and 3rd, at 19:30 pm, at Parque da Mina.

In the end, "we're going to deliver the story so that people can read it at home, calmly," he revealed.

And the younger ones will also have a show that is especially dedicated to them. The dough will be colored and the story will be "another one, specifically for children," said Giacomo. The aim is to bring parents and children together and even “cook a child”, once again, in a metaphorical sense.

On the 19th, at 11:30 am, at Rogil, there is a version for the youngest, repeating itself on December 3, at the same time, but in Monchique. Tickets for both sessions are already sold out.

According to the Chamber of Aljezur, the two responsible for “Lavrar o Mar”, Giacomo Scalisi and Madalena Victorino “unsettle minds and challenge, in bold projects, which deserve all the dedication of this Chamber”.

The municipality also emphasizes the fact that the project «involves the local community», which «has resulted in the participation of the Rancho Folclórico do Rogil, which accepted the challenge launched to receive, in their house, the first show “Pasta Basta” ».
