The 3rd International Poetry Meeting in the South, which took place from November 12rd to XNUMXth, ended with «the biggest participation ever». 

The initiative “brought to several spaces in the city some of the best in this area, with an increasing participation by the public, in the literary event organized by the Municipality of Olhão and curated by the poet Fernando Cabrita”, says the Chamber of Olhão.

 

The Town Hall, the Municipal Auditorium, the José Mariano Gago Municipal Library, the Municipal Museum – Compromisso Marítimo Building, the Sul, Sol e Sal Gallery, the Municipal Markets and the Bom Sucesso caique were just some of the spaces that received Poesia the most international South ever, with the presence in the Cubist city of guests from Morocco, Cuba, Spain, Brazil, Dominican Republic, France, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Netherlands, Vietnam, Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and of course , Portugal.

The list of participants, more than fifty poets, musicians, teachers, lecturers and translators, coming from 16 countries, represented, once again, «an opportunity for the dissemination of international contemporary poetry and for direct contact between the public and the writers who they create and produce it, in a privileged setting, such as the city of Olhão», says the City Council.

In terms of parallel programming, «there were many points of interest, with emphasis on musical events, exhibitions and visits by participating poets to schools in the county, for meetings with students».

The 2017 edition of the “International Poetry Meeting in the South” was also marked by the establishment of partnerships with two internationally renowned counterparts: the Marrakesh International Poetry Festival, one of the most important literary events in Morocco, and the Verso Adentro International Literary Meeting , from Aracena, Spain.

The fourth edition of Poesia a Sul, which will take place in 2018, is expected to be «already of consolidation and growth, with poets from countries such as Japan, Panama and Puerto Rico having already expressed their interest in participating in the event», concludes the Chamber Municipal.
