Study by the University of Algarve helps to bridge the gaps of “365Algarve”

The 2nd edition of “365Algarve” has already started, with events all over the region, and to fill the gaps of the inaugural edition there was an important contribution: the evaluation study carried out by the University of Algarve. Those responsible for the program went to the streets and listened to the opinion of those to whom the program did not reach, to improve it.

Dália Paulo, curator of “365Algarve” and guest of the program “Impressões”, from Rádio Universitária do Algarve (RUA) FM and from Sul Informação, explained that this evaluation work was done both with those who attended the 1st edition shows and with those who did not.

“We weren't afraid. We dared to go and interview those leaving the airport. We were there at the beginning of the year, in January, and in May. We went out into the street», he explained.

This work with the "non-public" of "365" resulted in "a lot of information". The responses allowed this “2nd edition communication plan to reverse what non-publics said”. For example: that "in the hotels they didn't have information".

For this edition, one of the novelties is the fact that the communication strategy has been changed. "We were at the main events of the summer, already with the schedule for the public to start planning their winter holidays", he said.

Also the creation from a website it was «very important» because it can be seen the programming, being «a means of communication that we didn't have in the 1st edition». To this, there is also work on social networks and on the marketing digital that will intensify.

This study revealed something about the launch edition of “365Algarve”: “we mainly reached foreign and national residents”. Therefore, it also lacked to attract tourists.

In addition to communication, the other area for which the study was important is related to the «dispersion of programming».

As the 1st edition began to be thought of late, there were some events that overlapped others that already existed.

“We were aware of this from the beginning, but when we started programming in August, it means that the Municipalities' programming is closed. It was a risk, but if we hadn't taken the risk, we wouldn't have had the 1st edition. We took a risk and now we are improving and being complementary to the existing cultural program», explained Dália Paulo.

Basically, this new edition is the «learning result» of a 1st edition that had «more than 1000 events and many unequal: some smaller and others with greater impact».

So this year the choice of proposals was more judicious, in a program that bets on anchor events, as "Plowing the Sea", (Aljezur and Monchique), the “LUZA – Algarve International Light Festival”, in Loulé, the “Festival Algarve Jazz Gourmet Moments”, in Lagos, and the “Festival do Contrabando”, in Alcoutim, but also in new initiatives such as O "AlGharb.Come".
