"We are at a special time in our lives and especially in municipal lives." This is, for the Minister of the Sea Ana Paula Vitorino, the reason why the Chamber of Faro will have considered "outrageous" the fact that the ceremony of signing the protocol for the installation of the maritime post on the island of Farol have happened in Olhão, when this nucleus and the entire Ilha da Culatra are the territory of Faro.

It was precisely at the door of the Chamber of Olhão, where the session was held, that the minister devalued the position taken this Wednesday by the Faro local authority, giving as an example his visit to Portimão, today, the 26th of July. “This morning, in Portimão, matters concerning Sagres, Lagos and Portimão were signed and several mayors were present,” he said.

In the cases mentioned, such as in Olhão, the mayors were elected by the Socialist Party, which does not happen in the Algarve capital, in which a right-wing coalition composed of PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/MIM won. In the note sent today to the newsrooms, the Chamber stressed not only the discontent with Faro having been passed over by neighboring Olhão to host the signing of the protocol, but also for having only been informed about the ceremony yesterday, Tuesday.

For the municipality of Faro, it is regrettable that this invitation was made just 24 hours in advance, in disregard of the most elementary principle of predictability to which public management must comply and, above all, in dissonance with institutional loyalty ».

According to the Chamber of Faro, President Rogério Bacalhau responded to the invitation that was addressed to him saying that he would not attend, "due to a previously assumed schedule commitment". He was also not represented by another member of the executive.

The Faro local authority also showed “its disappointment that, in this case, there was no prior consultation or, for that matter, information on the files under consideration which, it seems, will concern the territory and the life of the population of Faro – a reality that the Ministry of the Sea seems to be unaware of».

In fact, in a note sent to the editorial offices by the Office of the Minister of the Sea, there seemed to be some geographical confusion, as the 'signature of the protocol for the installation of the maritime post on the island of Farol, Olhão». On the sidelines of the ceremony which she presided over, the minister has already attributed “yours to its owner”.

«Today we dealt here with a matter that concerned Olhão and another that concerned Faro, more specifically to the Farol. Initially we even thought of holding the ceremony at the Núcleo do Farol, but it proved to be complicated by logistical and transport issues. So it was done here. We invited mr. president of Faro to be present at the table and to make an intervention. Unfortunately, he was not able to be present, but this session did not stop dealing with issues that concern the populations of the two councils», said Ana Paula Vitorino.

Today, in addition to the formalization of an agreement between the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve and the National Maritime Authority for the transfer of a building in the core of the Farol For the installation of an AMN maritime post, a protocol was signed between Docapesca and the Municipality of Olhão for the rehabilitation work of the supply ramps to the islands, an intervention that will cost 130 thousand euros and will be paid by the municipality of Olhão.

In addition to Ana Paula Vitorino, Minister of National Defense Azeredo Lopes also presided over the session.
