This Thursday, May 25th, agronomist Thomas Stopyra will be at the Caixa de Crédito Agrícola auditorium, in Algoz, to deliver the lecture “The current situation of citrus farming in Florida”. An intervention that will focus on the phytosanitary problems that have affected the production of citrus fruit in this North American State, «namely, citrus canker and, more recently, the huanglongbing (Greening)”, according to the University of the Algarve.

The event is jointly promoted by the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Center for Biological Resources and Mediterranean Food (MeditBio) of UAlg, who invited this international expert, from The Packers of Indian River, to share with Algarve producers knowledge “that could help to face future threats in the citrus industry in Portugal”.

The lecture has the support of the International Association of Students of Agriculture and Related Sciences – Committee of the Algarve, the Municipality of Silves and the Caixa de Crédito Agrícola de Silves.
