A lecture on “The House of Misericórdia of Tavira and the architecture promoted by Misericórdias in the 22th century” and a concert on “Portuguese choral music: polyphony and the 10th century”, will mark the end of the “Tavira, Heritage and Arts” program. Saturday 30nd at the Igreja da Misericórdia. The lecture is scheduled for 22 am and the concert will take place in the evening at 30 pm.

Guided by Joana Balsa de Pinho, Art Historian from the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon, the lecture focuses on the Confraternity of Misericórdia, created to carry out the works of Misericórdia, as promoters of different heritage manifestations, «with their own characteristics that are related, with its assistance nature, its devotions and fraternal daily dynamics”, according to the Câmara de Tavira.

«The Casa da Misericórdia of Tavira is, therefore, an example of an architecture built from scratch with a care purpose, relevant during the Modern Age in Portugal. In focus will be the architectural and artistic characteristics of this House within the scope of the architecture promoted by the Misericórdias», he adds.

“Tavira, Heritage and Arts” was a program of the Câmara de Tavira that had the support of 365 Algarve, the parishes of Tavira, the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Monte do Carmo and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Tavira.
