The Manuel Bivar Garden, the Arco da Vila, the Ria Formosa, with the sun setting on the horizon, but also the Lethes Theater and the streets of Vila-Adentro. Faro is the setting for the film “Malapata”, which was premiered yesterday, March 14, at Teatro das Figuras. The narrative, which was all recorded in the Algarve capital, will take Faro to the cinemas, starting tomorrow, the 16th.

A story of friendship, which had everything to go right, is the motto for the film, which marks the debut of Diogo Morgado as a feature film director, whose producer is Patrício Faísca, from the Algarve.

Rui Unas is Carlos, Marco Horário is Artur and, after a night of drinking, they are literally “lucky”. But what looked good… turns out to be a great suitcase.

Even before the film started to run on the screen of Teatro das Figuras, Diogo Morgado, who, accompanied by part of the cast, such as Luciana Abreu and Ana Malhoa, had the right to a full room, explained why Faro be the setting for the film.

“We are trying to cut conventions and decentralize stories. Our country is much more than Lisbon and Porto and the South of Portugal seemed perfect to us. The city of Faro received us with open arms.».

The film is a comedy, but it also tries to challenge various issues, such as the importance of money, love and friendship. And the fact that it was filmed in the capital of the Algarve also influenced the development of the story. «Faro it's an urban, energetic city and all that is put into the film», explained Diogo Morgado.

Still, some interiors, "for logistical reasons", had to be filmed in Lisbon, since the entire cast was working there.

Rui Unas, who embodies one of the main characters, also did not miss the premiere and, like Diogo Morgado, he expressed, through laughter, his pleasure in filming in the Algarve. «We were very well received and we ate very well». Not even the «a little wind» that was during the filming made, for the actor, this film less «pleasant to make».

«This is an ambitious project that tried, in a short period of time, to amuse people. This is the great purpose, which is difficult to achieve», added Rui Unas. Even because the film is “made by friends, but not friends”, since jokes are not only understood by the actors.

At the end of the screening of the film, which received much applause, Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, praised the “courage” of Diogo Morgado “in leaving the big urban centers”. "The images of the city are beautiful and the history is also rich," he added.

The director, in addition to thanking the Hotel Faro, where some scenes were recorded, left a message to everyone: «if this film has no expression… there won't be another one».

And if the lottery, which is the background of “Malapata”, is pure fiction… the truth is that yesterday there was even a happy winner which, registered the EuroMillions in Faro, and nailed the key!
