British Fiona Hunter-Johnston (Fusion Fierlan RT) dominated the double round of the Portuguese Women's Cycling Cup, winning in Loulé and Albufeira, in the first two scoring races, on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The British cyclist was the strongest in the late afternoon of Saturday, at the track Bexiga Peres, Loulé, and repeated her superiority this Sunday morning, in Albufeira, where the second race of the Women's Cup of Portugal took place.

Sunday's elite competition totaled 73,8 kilometres, which the front group of four runners completed in 2h25m42s. Fiona Hunter-johnston triumphed against two cyclists from the home team 5Quintas/Municipality of Albufeira, Irina Coelho and Liliana Jesus, second and third.

Fiona Hunter-johnston leaves the Algarve weekend comfortably at the top of the elite overall standings with 100 points. The second ranked, with 45 points, is Irina Coelho.

Junior Maria Martins (Bairrada) also started the 2017 edition of the Women's Cup of Portugal with a double triumph. Today, in the 59-kilometer race, the medal at last year's European track beat the sprint Marta Branco (Maiatos/Reabnorte). The third ranked, at 18 seconds, was Raquel Silva (5 Quinas / Albufeira).

Cadet competition is expected to be tighter. On Saturday, on the Loulé track, Joana Pereira won (5 Quinas/Albufeira Municipality). The following day, on the roads of Albufeira, the 44,3 km race ended with a triumph by Daniela Campos (5 Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira). In the overall results of the Cup, the two runners are tied at the top, totaling 85 points.

Elisete Sousa (5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira) made the double in both races this weekend in the master category. Collectively, the team from Albufeira also had two triumphs and leads the team ranking at the end of the first two of the five competitions that make up the Women's Cup in Portugal in 2017.
