The storks' nest has been growing in height for years, with more and more chopsticks and small pieces of plastic, supported by orange gas bottles. This is just one of the most curious nests in the stork colony (Ciconia ciconia) which has grown visibly on the edge of the EN125, at the entrance to Odiáxere (Lagos).

There are also nests on top of several olive trees that someone once transplanted there, there is one up there, on top of the lighting tower of the neighboring football stadium. And in the surrounding fields, a short distance from the Ria de Alvor, you can see storks looking for food.

The spectacle is such that, throughout the day, there are dozens of people, especially bird-loving tourists, who stop by the roadside to see and photograph these storks, who do not mind the noise and movement of the EN125, where the traffic has no rest.

At this time of year, with spring almost starting, the storks are in their nests, hatching their eggs, but there are even some where the little storks that have just hatched already lurk. And the parents are bustling about, sharing the task of gathering food and hatching eggs or caring for the young.

Taking advantage of these storks super stars, even the cabbage stall located next door, by the road and in the field where vegetables are grown, is decorated with two storks…but these are made of plastic.
