The Parish Council of Montenegro, in the municipality of Faro, launched a campaign, on January 11th, which aims to sensitize the population to the preservation of public space through the collection of dog waste.

The campaign entitled “Animals are our friends” «intends to help eradicate from our streets a problem that has been aggravated by the increase in the number of pets», explains Steven Sousa Piedade, the president of the Parish Council, underlining that the scourge can have serious consequences for public health.

The environmental awareness campaign is put into practice by distributing a pamphlet to the population that warns of problems such as the contamination of gardens and other public spaces, mainly used by children.

The municipality explains that "the occurrence of infections and parasites are some of the diseases associated with contact with animal waste", and the Board, in this campaign, explains how the proper plastic bag for their collection should be used. then deposited in the appropriate container.

In addition to asking the population for more attention in the collection of waste, to keep the parish clean, the initiative also suggests the vaccination, registration and license of pets, «thus protecting them from the risk of eventual disappearances and of living with “companies undesirable””, explains the Parish Council.
“Public health is a priority” and “With the bag in hand, there is no waste on the floor”, are some of the phrases inscribed in the pamphlet that the municipality is making available to all homes in Montenegro.

Steven Sousa Piedade also emphasizes that, alongside this campaign, the Parish Council of Montenegro "is attentive to all possible sources of pollution that put the environment and public health at risk in order to intervene in a timely manner".
