The Monchique Sausage Fair will return next Friday, March 3rd, and everything indicates that it will be the last time that the heliport will be transformed to host this event. Next year, the multipurpose space, that will be born on the premises of the old sawmill, should already be prepared to receive the event, revealed Luís Grade, councilor of the Monchique Chamber, to the Sul Informação.

According to the official, “this could be the last fair in this space. Everything indicates that the space in the old sawmill will be full, since we already have support for its execution.. This space will allow hosting not only this fair, but also the Camellia Festival, the Medronho Festival or the Ham Fair”, the events that, throughout the year, are promoted by the City Council to boost the local economy.

In this year's edition of the Sausages Fair, which takes place between Friday and Sunday, there will be 45 exhibitors. Sausages, handicrafts, honey, medronho, sweets or taverns make up the stands of this event, which the organization hopes will take around 25 thousand people to the mountain village over the three days.

"Given the good numbers of tourism in the Algarve and the signs that we have in terms of room occupancy for this weekend, there may be an increase in the number of visitors this year, and if it rains, we will be penalized", he says. Luis Grade.

Beyond the stands, the Sausages Fair once again has presentations of show-cooking, promoted by the Association of Cooks and Confectioners of the Algarve, whose main focus of creation and confection is the Monchique sausages.

«This was a bet won last year, which had a huge reception, the chefs prepared a great delicacy and people in the end “threw themselves to the pots”», jokes the councilor.

The doors of the enclosure open at 17:00 on Friday and, on that day, the musical entertainment will be in charge of the Rancho Folclorico da Luz de Tavira, from 21:30. On Saturday, the doors open at 10 am and close at 00 pm, after the Quinta do Bill concert, scheduled for 23 pm, has ended. Finally, on Sunday, the fair opens at 00 am and closes at 22 pm. Virgul is the artist who takes the stage on this day, from 00:10.

In addition to the scheduled concerts, Luís Grade emphasizes that there will be traveling entertainment, with the Sertã Concertina Band.

During the event, a sausage producer will also be awarded the Lima Duque Prize, «with the aim of perpetuating the memory of Dr. Luís Fernando Maia de Lima Duque, a veterinarian and person always linked to this fair», says the Monchique City Hall.
