The Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) promotes another familiarization trip tomorrow, December 6th (fam trip) for journalists and tourism agents of the “Rediscover the Secrets of the Algarve” project, this time in Vila do Bispo, where the heritage of the Umayyad dynasty in the municipality will be unveiled.

Vila do Bispo is, in fact, one of the 11 municipalities in the Algarve. who joined the Umayyad Route, a tourist-cultural itinerary dedicated to the Arab dynasty that for a thousand years dominated the Mediterranean. This Umayyad Route, in turn, integrates the international itinerary Umayyad Route, which is part of the set of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe.

In addition to wanting to reveal this heritage, the purpose of this initiative is to show «some of the lesser-known wonders of this Algarve municipality», says the RTA.

"Journalists, tour operators and regional entities will have the opportunity to discover various facets of the county's tourism offer, from the arts, the historical and archaeological heritage and even gastronomic culture", adds the entity.

«With this initiative, we intend to continue to make known the other side of the Algarve: its rich cultural and historical heritage, present in the arts, monuments, and also in the local gastronomy. We are going to present some of the tourist attractions of Vila do Bispo, which have great potential to captivate more tourists and visitors in low season» explains Desidério Silva, president of RTA.

The series of fam trips «Rediscovering the Secrets of the Algarve» started in 2013 and has already passed through Alcoutim, São Brás de Alportel, Monchique, Lagos, Lagoa, AljezurTAvira, Silves, Faro, Albufeira.

This initiative has the support of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, the Regional Directorate for Culture of the Algarve and the Umayyad Project – Umayyad Route.
