Podium MMT Men's SockThe Tavira CPSE – Liberty Seguros Half Marathon exceeded the best expectations, despite the rain, in this second edition, organized by the Casa do Povo of Santo Estêvão. Increased number of entries, as well as the competitive level, with the presence of several Olympic athletes and national champions, marked the event.

Although weather forecasts point to a morning of heavy rain, with some showers having even occurred, this did not prevent almost all of the registered athletes and walkers from participating in the Tavira CPSE – Liberty Seguros Half Marathon, nor the very public from taking to the streets and support the athletes.

The big winners in men, overall classification, of this II Half Marathon of Tavira CPSE – Liberty Seguros, were the athletes of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, in the 21,097km (half) and 12,5 meter (Mini) races.

Always hotly contested throughout the course, in the men's Half Marathon race, the winner was Hermano Ferreira, several times European Club Champion and National Champion, who, in the last kilometers, left Carlos Silva, of GDR Reboleira, and the “algarvio” Jorge Varela, from the CD Areias de São João, winner of the previous year, second and third respectively. Hermano won with the time of 01:07:38:667.

In the women's Half Marathon event, the “Tavirense” Patricia Serafim, representing Beja Atlético Clube, won all the competition, with a time of 01:19:27:753.

In second place was another Algarvean and Olympic athlete Ana Dias, from CD Areias de São João, last year's winner, and third, a Romanian athlete, Laura Popescu, currently internship in the Algarve with her team.

In men, in the Mini Marathon event, the podium was dominated by athletes from Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Samuel Freire won with a time of 38:36:268 and João Valente was third. The surprise came from the Romanian athlete Andrei Stefana, who is also in the Algarve training at the Vila Real de Santo António Internship Center, and who was in 2nd place, just seconds away from the 1st.

In the Women's Mini Marathon event, the winner was the Olympic athlete Ana Cabecinha, from Clube Oriental de Pechão, with 45:08:581.

In 2nd place was the athlete from Sport Lisboa e Benfica Sofia Marmelo, at 7”33, and another Romanian athlete, Claudia Bobochea, at 8”01, this being the most competitive of all the competitions, with the athletes distanced by a few seconds.

The best athlete in a team from Tavira was João Pisco, from Ondasolida.

The Solidarity Family March also had about two hundred and a half participants, even on a rainy day. Thus, with their generous contribution, they increased the amount raised to be delivered to the Casa do Povo of Luz de Tavira and the Social Center of Santo Estêvão.

The Organization thanks «the Municipality of Tavira, Parish of Tavira, Parish of Luz de Tavira and Santo Estêvão, Liberty Seguros and other sponsors for their trust, the security authorities and the Algarve Athletics Association for their support, as well as everyone the approximately 150 volunteers who collaborated in this edition”, since “without them it would not have been possible”.

"A word to the Tavirenses who knew how to receive the athletes, supporting and applauding and organized their Sunday in a different way, encouraging everyone to pass", adds the organization.
