The Municipality of Faro is developing the Detailed Plan for Largo Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro (Largo do Mercado), which aims to reorganize the urban structure of this area, and the Urbanization Plan for Areal Gordo, with a view to «sustainable occupation of Campina de Faro».
The intervention area of the Detailed Plan for Largo Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro has approximately 3,5 hectares of urban land, integrating Largo Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro and also covers a section of Rua Dr. Cândido Guerreiro.
The Chamber of Faro explains that this zone “corresponds to a consolidated and reference area for the city, on which there is some urban pressure. It is necessary to reorganize the urban structure in order to guarantee a correct relationship between buildings and the surrounding urban areas, also ensuring a public space with mobility conditions for everyone».
In turn, the Areal Gordo Urbanization Plan has an intervention area of approximately 133 hectares, located in a predominantly rural area, east of the city of Faro, next to the EN 125.
According to the municipality, «with the elaboration of this plan, the intention is essentially to promote a sustainable occupation of Campina de Faro, as well as promoting urban restructuring and renewal'.
Another objective highlighted by the autarchy is to develop «a municipal business area and the expansion and requalification of the infrastructure area with a view to hosting business activities, for the relocation of companies and industries located along the EN 125, in urban areas or on the ground. rural".
After the publication of the two plans, which has not happened yet, there will be a period of public consultation that will last 15 working days «during which interested parties will be able to formulate suggestions, as well as present information, in the context of the procedure for drawing up such plans'.
