Hospital_EmergencyA new hospital, "better equipped and with university expertise, in order to attract doctors and enhance the teaching of medicine in the region" is needed, defended the PSD/Algarve.

The Algarve Social Democrats went public to regret the declarations of Health Minister Adalberto Campos Fernandes that the project for the new Central Hospital of the Algarve would never go ahead before 2019, while defending the advance of this health unit.

“We all recognize that the region suffers from a chronic problem in the attractiveness of doctors, whether for reasons of reputation, working conditions or career expectations. A new modern and advanced hospital, linked to research and in close liaison with the University, would be an essential pole to boost healthcare in the region», believes the PSD/Algarve.

A very different position than the structure of Faro from the same party took over in 2012, a time when he considered "demagogic and out of step with reality" the demand made by the PS, then in opposition, to build the same infrastructure.

At the time, the Farense Social Democrats said they understood “the circumstantial impossibility of carrying out the construction of a new, more modern and comprehensive Central Hospital” and welcomed “the recent improvement works of the Hospital de Faro».

Now, the PSD/Algarve considers it strange “and even contradictory that the Government has announced a protocol of collaboration with the University and is now rejecting the construction of a new hospital, a vital infrastructure for this purpose”.

«The taking of measures to which the minister committed himself, stating that he would solve the essential health problems in the Algarve by May 2016, is taking a long time. This year, care production is falling, according to official data: fewer appointments, fewer urgent and scheduled surgeries, among other parameters that are degrading», they accuse.

The PSD took the opportunity to broaden the scope of its criticisms, stressing that "there is no public investment planned for the Algarve".

«The EN 125 has stopped, the Hospital has been hidden in a drawer, the train connection to the airport has been dropped and the Port of Portimao is not receiving the planned improvement works. From the Algarve they take the increase in IMI from the sun and views and the more expensive fuel for the transport of goods», concluded the Algarve social democrats.
