The fire that broke out this afternoon in a wooded area in Perna Seca, parish of São Bartolomeu de Messines, has already been reduced to one front, while the number of operational workers is now smaller.

According to the website of the National Civil Protection Authority, the fire continues to be fought by 207 workers, supported by 68 vehicles, including crawlers.

The fire, which started this afternoon at 15 pm, was fought, while there was daylight, by four aerial means, coming to have two active fronts.

At the end of the afternoon, six houses in the Perna Seca area were evacuated, but only "as a preventive measure", according to Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, to Sul Informação.

Firefighters hope that the drop in temperature during the night will help to definitively control the fire.
