waterThe Parliamentary Group of the Left Bloc will ask the Algarve Chambers for clarification on their social policies in the area of water supply. The blocistas announced that they will present an application to the Assembly of the Republic, this week, to urge the Algarve's municipalities to reveal whether their water supply at low level is publicly or privately managed and whether a social tariff is foreseen for low-income citizens and families.

This request, which will be made by the deputy elected for the Algarve João Vasconcelos and by his bench colleague Jorge Costa, follows on from and a recommendation made by the Regulatory Authority for Water and Waste Services (ERSAR), which advised «all managing entities of water and waste services, the practice of tariffs compatible with the sustainability of the services and with the economic capacity of the populations”, according to BE.

In addition to knowing whether or not there is a social tariff, «Vasconcelos and Costa also want to determine the criteria applied by the municipality for access to the social tariff, what is the expected reduction in relation to the normal tariff and how it can be requested'.

The 16 municipal executives of the Algarve are also asked about «how many domestic water supply contracts exist in the municipality and, of these, how many are covered by the aforementioned social tariff».
