Bicla@FilipedaPalmaPortimão joins the initiative for the second year in a row European Cycling Challenge (#ECC2016), promoted in the Algarve by AMAL (Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve) and which takes place in all participating European cities, from the 1st to the 31st of May.

Created by the city of Bologna, this initiative aims to challenge the various European cities to a competition between teams of urban cyclists and encourage the change to a healthier lifestyle, favoring active and sustainable mobility.

In this sense, the municipality of Portimão challenges the community, and in particular the families, to take a bike ride between Portimão and Alvor, with a total distance of 17,2 kilometers.

This activity is scheduled for May 7 (Saturday), departing at 16:30 pm, at Largo do Município, and returning at 18:30 pm, at the same location.

In May, Portimão cycles to participate in the European Cycling Challenge 2016 and has the help of residents and visitors in this challenge. This membership also seeks to bring benefits to citizens, namely cheaper transport, free parking “at the door”, less CO2 in the air, less noise, more health, more fun and more sport.

The municipality of Portimão participates by joining the Algarve Team, made up of all people who use a bicycle and who can download the application on their smartphone (in Portuguese version), clicking here.

O European Cycling Challenge is a European challenge that combines the use of bicycles with technology, through the registration of the route made in a free application for mobile devices (Cycling365).

AMAL waits repeat «the success achieved in 2015, when close to 300 urban cyclists pedaled over 13 thousand kilometers, with the Algarve region overtaking the cities of Barcelona and Bristol».

According to AMAL, «the goal set for this year by the partners of the initiative is win more fans and double the distance covered in 2015, a year in which various initiatives were carried out throughout the Algarve».
