science on stageThe ten finalists of Ciência em Cena, among which the João de Deus Secondary School team, from Faro, on March 12th, take to the stage of the Auditorium 2 of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, for the final of the competition, whose central themes were the brain and neurodegenerative diseases.

On this date, the three big winners who managed to stand out among the more than 200 applications received will be known.

O Science on Stage is a competition that aims to awaken the interest of young students in scientific knowledge, make them aware of the various diseases and raise their awareness of solidarity.

After addressing the topic of diabetes last year, this year's edition challenged young people to make creative and informative videos about neurodegenerative diseases and the brain.

The ten finalist projects, with participation from all over the country, address topics such as Alzheimer's Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Familial Amyloidotic Polyneuropathy (FAP), better known as Little Feet Disease, seen through the eyes of young people, through music, dance, acting or drawing.

The young participants also had the opportunity to prepare for the final show with actors Romeu Costa and Catarina Requeijo and scientist David Marçal.

On the 12th, the three winners of the contest will be chosen by a jury formed by Elizabeth Silva, responsible for the Science sector of the UNESCO National Commission and coordinator of the Portuguese Forum of Geoparks and the Portuguese Network of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, neuroradiologist Nuno Sousa, editor-in-chief of the journal Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, and radio and television presenter Fernando Alvim.

Those selected will receive a gift check in the amount of 500 euros and will be present at the Marathon da Saúde solidarity show, broadcast on RTP.

All the videos of the finalists for this initiative of the Descobrir Program, in partnership with the Health Marathon, can be seen at www.cienciaemcena.pt
