More than 80 thousand people were on New Year's Eve at Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira, which entered 2016 with the sound of Anselmo Ralph. The municipality of Albufeiren also adds that, in the first days of the year, between December 31 and January 4, 160 thousand people passed through the municipality.
The influx of people left Carlos Silva e Sousa, Mayor, satisfied. «This end of the year fulfilled the expectations, both in terms of public and of economic and media return for the county. The program was built essentially for families and people of all ages and that's what we saw in the various events we organized».
The mayor also referred that this was the year with the lowest number of occurrences on the night of December 31st, causing «the vast majority of those who visited us to consider their investment well spent»».
The influx of people to Albufeira, during the end of the year, it was also reflected in the municipality's hotel occupation..
According to the Municipality of Albufeira, «the passage to the new year was marked by the fireworks session that lit up Praia dos Pescadores and Praia da Oura. After twelve tolls, Avenida Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro was filled with excitement with the Star Parade, a parade of circus artists that filled the streets and adherent commercial establishments with juggling, acrobatics, fire numbers and many surprises».
The party continued in the municipality, on the first day of 2016, with the parish of Paderne receiving 10 visitors who, «despite the rain, walked the streets of the village of Barrocal in the Algarve in a unique environment. Visitors on the first day of the year attended the historic parade that portrayed the ceremony of handing over the Donation Letter of the castle, village and church patronage to the Order of Avis, by D. Dinis King of Portugal and the Algarves».
On January 3, the event was broadcast live on the SIC program “Portugal em Festa” which, according to the municipality of Albufeira, “gathered thousands of people into the old nucleus, transformed into a medieval market”.
For six hours, presenters João Baião and Rita Ferro Rodrigues shared the history of the parish and the event “Paderne Medieval”, from where several direct interviews were made with the president of the Chamber, Carlos Silva e Sousa, to the president of the General Assembly from Casa do Povo, Arménio Aleluia Martins, to artisans, extras and musicians from the Band of the Sociedade Musical de Paderne.
Local artists such as the Cantares de Janeiras group “Força da Tradição”, the “Banda Vibrações” and the singer Carlos Coelho, all from Padernenses, passed on the stage of the pavilion, installed next to the João Campos Stadium. The owners of the “Venice” restaurant also showed some of the regional dishes and sweets.
The New Year celebrations continued until last Monday, when the Solrir festival ended, which took place at the Palácio de Congressos do Algarve, at Herdade dos Salgados.
According to the Chamber, «there were more than 6 spectators who received 2016 laughing, on the four nights that renowned artists such as Nilton, Aldo Lima, Herman José, Diogo took to the stage. Faro, Pedro Durão, Eduardo Madeira, among many others, who starred in truly hilarious moments».
