The Portuguese Environment Agency, through the Administration of the Hydrographic Region of the Algarve, is carrying out some controlled landslide operations until the end of this week, on the cliffs of Lagos.

The cliffs are a natural geological form in permanent evolution, resulting from the erosion to which they are subject, due to their interaction with the sea. But its evolution is characterized by the frequent collapsing and falling of blocks "which may come to constitute dangerous situations".

According to the regional director of the Portuguese Environment Agency ( APA) Sebastião Teixeira “to help with the work left unfinished by nature”, thus reducing any possible risks for all who visit these beaches.

“What, in practice, we are doing is anticipating the collapse, tearing down what was unstable and trying to give a more solid profile to the cliffs”, he said.

According to the official, even after these interventions, bathers should stay away from the most sensitive areas, considering that the “danger of landslides, and in this case uncontrolled, is real, especially during Easter”.

Considering that nature is unpredictable, warnings were once again made to respect the signs placed in places, so that everyone can enjoy the beaches in safety.
