The Maritime Police (PM) and the Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM), under the coordination of the Southern Regional Commander of the Maritime Police, carried out a joint operation, from 3 to 5 September, in all ports in the Algarve and waters. maritime interiors, in order to combat cases of interference in the level of communications in the maritime environment.

According to a statement from the Maritime Authority, the operation aimed to 'solve problems related to electromagnetic interference, originating in equipment installed on board vessels and on land, which affected not only the private channels of the Maritime Authority's Communications System, but also numerous frequencies Maritime Mobile Service, Aeronautical Mobile Service, Land Mobile Service and Amateur Radiocommunications Service'.

In this operation, 28 vessels were inspected (20 maritime-tourist, seven fishing and one local traffic) and 29 land stations, mobile and fixed, with a total of 57 radio communication equipment inspected.

This action resulted in the drafting of ten notices and the seizure of 14 radio communications equipment, as a result of several violations detected, mostly related to the lack of certification and the improper use of unauthorized frequencies.
