Coffee grounds do not necessarily have to be garbage and can be used to produce mushrooms. Anyone who wants to learn how to do it just has to enroll in the workshop «Production of mushrooms at home using coffee grounds», led by former student of the University of Algarve and specialist in Waste Management Marco Ferraz, which the Sardinha de Papel store , in collaboration with the Palace of the Lieutenant will promote on August 17, in Faro.

The workshop will take place from 10 am to 13 pm (August 17th is a Saturday), on Rua Conselheiro Bívar, where the two social and collaborative commerce projects that have joined together to promote it are located. More information about the workshop and what is required to register can be obtained via email [email protected].

Marco Ferraz has been working in the home production of mushrooms in the North of the country and «found in the coffee grounds an ideal substrate for production in urban areas, as it is a waste that is selectively separated at the source and that already undergoes a “pre -pasteurization” in the coffee brewing process”.

“It should be noted that this waste has a very low recovery rate, in most cases being mixed with other waste for incineration or landfill. Our interest is to contribute to the promotion and dynamization of actions that arouse taste and interest in themes related to Mycology, providing enriching and pleasurable experiences», referred to Sardinha de Papel.
