Loulé once again joins the commemorations of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, which is marked on April 18 and invites you to visit the Castle of Loulé, «one of the monuments of the Algarve region that will be highlighted».

Loulé suggests several initiatives, which will be inserted in a broader program, which will take place from the 18th to the 21st of April in the Algarve, coordinated by the Regional Directorate of Culture. All activities have free entry.

The proposals are under the theme "Heritage + Education = Identity", focusing on "the relationship and importance of these two parallel realities, in the spirit that the future depends a lot on the reinforcement of identities and that education, and the different heritages that they shape knowledge, they are irreplaceable contributions to this end”, illustrated in a press note to the Câmara de Loulé.

«Thus, at 11 am, at the Alcaidaria do Castelo de Loulé, the Al'Mutamid Route will be presented by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve. This is a cultural-tourist itinerary of the Hispanic-Muslim legacy in the Algarve, Project POCTEP (Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Program), which has as regional partners the Municipal Councils of Loulé, Silves and Tavira, and the Defense Association of the Historical and Archaeological Heritage of Aljezur», revealed the Loulé local authority.

At 12:00, there is a guided visit to the walled perimeter of the Castle of Loulé and the Islamic Baths, by Archaeologist Alexandra Pires from Loulé City Council.

«ICOMOS International (International Council of Monuments and Sites) chose as the theme of celebration, for 2013, the Heritage of Education, taking into account the vast legacy related to learning and knowledge, which finds its materialization in numerous sets and elements of architectural heritage, movable heritage and intangible heritage, of different scales and value, and in different contexts, spread throughout the country», recalled the Câmara de Loulé.
