Between April 19th and 21st, the Cine-Teatro Louletano will host an extension of the «8 ½ Italian Film Festival», a festival that arrives for the first time in the Algarve.

Over three days, the cultural space of Loulé will receive «a selection of the most relevant Italian cinematographic productions of the last season and will have the presence of directors», revealed the Câmara de Loulé.

The comedy «Una Famiglia Perfetta» (2012), by Paolo Genovese will kick off the festival's programming in the Algarve, on Friday, 19th, at 21 pm. On Saturday, the short films «Cargo» (30), by Carlo Sironi, «Terra» (16), by Piero Messina, «La Colpa» (30), by Francesco Prisco, «Training Auto Geno » (2012), by Astutillo Smeriglia, «Dell'Ammazzare il Maiale» (2012), by Simone Massi, and «Cusutu'n Coddu (Cucito Addosso)» (2011), by Giovanni la Parola.

Also on the 20th, the film «Bellas Mariposas» (18), by Salvatore Mereu, will be screened at 30 pm. At night, the public will have the opportunity to watch a joint production of Italy and Switzerland, the feature film «L'Intervallo» (2012), by Leonardo di Costanzo, «one of the most awarded Italian films internationally», he added the local authority, in a press release.

At the end of this event in the city of Loulé, on April 21, the work «Io sono Li» (2012), by Andrea Segre, will be exhibited. "This Franco-Italian production was the winner of the Lux Prize, as recognition given by the European Parliament to films considered to have social values ​​for the integration of European communities", according to the municipality.

The «8 1/2 Italian Film Festival» is an initiative of the association Il Sorpasso in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture and the Italian Embassy in Portugal, and will also pass through Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto, Funchal and Luanda. The Loulé extension of the festival has the support of the Municipality of Loulé and the Honorary Consulate of Italy in Faro.

«Created in 2008, 8 1/2 is a festival that was born and grew in Portugal, the result of the work of a team made up of Portuguese and Italian professionals, and which is deeply rooted in Portuguese culture and society. Its mission is to exhibit works that meet high quality criteria, whether by renowned authors or by the new generation of filmmakers, always faithful to the objective of bringing the best of Italian cinema to Portugal», revealed the Chamber of Loulé.

The event also has a competitive component. Seven new films, first or second works by Italian authors, compete for the prize for best film in competition. This section promotes the discovery of the most prominent records of the new Italian cinema and works that stand out for their innovation in terms of content and language. In all, seven films were selected to go to the competition.

Thus, the Rottapharm Madaus Prize will be awarded, selected by the official jury of the 8 ½, which is awarded to the best film in Competition and Audience Award, selected by the audience of the Festa do Cinema Italiano through direct voting.
