The municipalities of Tavira and São Brás de Alportel signed today, Thursday, in Lisbon, the definitive version of the Local Social Development Contracts (CLDS) that will allow the recovery of houses burned in the Catraia fire, which destroyed 26 hectares of forest and bush in the Serra do Caldeirão in July.

With the formalization of the contracts, the autarchies of the two municipalities affected by the fire can now proceed to tenders for the adjudication of the works, since the recovery projects, carried out by the services of both Municipal Councils, will already be concluded. A procedure that, taking into account the statements of the mayor of Tavira to the Sul Informação two weeks ago, it will be done by invitation “to two or three companies”.

The final funds for the CLDS in Tavira and São Brás de Alportel, according to various national media, amounted to 667 euros for the municipality of Tavira and 844 euros for São Brás de Alportel. That is, values above the 600 euros of reference for each municipality. of the commitment protocol signed in August between the municipalities, the Secretary of State for Social Security and private entities in the social area of both municipalities.

The difference in values between the two municipalities is linked to the fact that São Brás de Alportel had more houses burned down, with a total of 18 houses in need of restoration. In Tavira, there are seven properties in question, with the final amount needed very close to the reference value. That is, the value of CLDS was effectively adjusted to real investment needs, as the Secretary of State for Social Security Marco António Costa had promised about 2 months ago in Faro.

"Our desire is for there to be work on the ground next month," Marco António Costa told reporters, on the sidelines of the contract signing session. He also guaranteed that the same support will be given to victims of other large fires that occurred in Portugal, since the procedure used in response to the fire in Catraia became Law last week, as our newspaper advanced first-hand.
