The National Road between Cachopo and Barranco do Velho was cut off for safety reasons, due to the fire that has been raging since around 14 pm in that area, informs the Civil Protection on its website.

At the state of play at 20:37 pm, the fire maintained four active fronts, which are destroying a vast area of ​​forestry settlements, with pine, eucalyptus and cork oaks, in an area between Cachopo and Barranco do Velho, near the village of Catraia, in the mountains of Tavira.

The fire was declared at 14:10 pm, near Catraia, parish of Cachopo. At 14:38 pm, the intervention of the heavy bomber helicopter was requested, and at 15:17 pm two medium amphibious bomber planes were called, which come from the north of the country.

There are 147 firefighters from 19 corporations in the Algarve and Alentejo at the site, as well as members of the GNR Intervention and Relief Group (GIPS) and forest sappers. He is also operating a crawler machine.
