More than 150 firefighters, aided by two amphibious bomber planes and three helicopters, are fighting the fire that broke out this afternoon in the village of Catraia, near Cachopo, in the Tavira mountains.

The fire remains to be controlled, having already three active fronts, despite the operational command having decided to reinforce means, land and air, even calling the Reinforcement Groups to Fight Forest Fires (GRIF) of Beja and Évora.

A source from the Tavira Chamber said that the mayor of the municipality is also on his way to Cachopo, to find out where the situation is going.

The fire was declared at 14:10 pm, near Catraia, parish of Cachopo. At 14:38 pm, the intervention of the heavy bomber helicopter was requested, and at 15:17 pm two medium amphibious bomber planes were called, which come from the north of the country.

There are 147 firefighters from 19 corporations in the Algarve and Alentejo at the site, as well as members of the GNR Intervention and Relief Group (GIPS) and forest sappers.

Despite the efforts of firefighters and other means in the field, the fire continues to be controlled and to advance very quickly in an area of ​​woods and forest in the Serra Tavirense.
