The fire that broke out this afternoon in the village of Catraia, near Cachopo, in the Serra de Tavira, already has four active fronts, despite the use of two planes, three helicopters, a hundred and a half firefighters and reinforcements from Beja.

Source of the presidency of the Chamber of Tavira told the Sul Informação that fire is devouring a vast area of ​​forest settlements, with pine, eucalyptus and cork oak trees, in an area between Cachopo and Barranco do Velho, near the village of Catraia. There are no homes in danger for the time being.

The fire was declared at 14:10 pm, near Catraia, parish of Cachopo. At 14:38 pm, the intervention of the heavy bomber helicopter was requested, and at 15:17 pm two medium amphibious bomber planes were called, which come from the north of the country.

There are 147 firefighters from 19 corporations in the Algarve and Alentejo at the site, as well as members of the GNR Intervention and Relief Group (GIPS) and forest sappers. He is also operating a crawler machine.

Despite the efforts of firefighters and other means in the field, the fire continues to be controlled and to advance very quickly in a forest area in the Serra Tavirense.
