The river beach of Pego Fundo, in Alcoutim, was today awarded the Blue Flag and, as in previous years, bears the flag “Accessible Beach, Beach for All!”.

The blue flag is a certificate of environmental quality, which distinguishes the effort that the municipality of Alcoutim has made in this direction, the river beach complying with the standards required in the areas of environmental information and education, management and safety and water quality.

The “Accessible Beach – Beach for Everyone” award, won consecutively for eight years, distinguishes bathing, maritime and river areas that meet the necessary requirements in terms of accessibility and limited mobility.

In this sense, the Pego Fundo river beach is equipped with an access ramp to the sand, wooden walkways to the parasols and close to the water, adapted sanitary facilities and auxiliary bathing facilities.

Lifeguards are also sensitized and prepared for the difficulties and needs of people with disabilities.

Francisco Amaral, Mayor of Alcoutim, is pleased to have in Alcoutim “a beach for everyone and to see this merit recognized”.
