The eight socio-educational courses that took place in the municipality of Alcoutim in the 2011/2012 school year were officially closed this Wednesday, with an exhibition of the works at Casa dos Condes.
The courses were promoted under the Local Contract for Social Development “+ Inclusion”, established between the Municipality of Alcoutim, the IP Social Security Institute and the Odiana Association.
The approximately 100 trainees involved in the initiative were present yesterday at Casa dos Condes, whose gallery now displays works resulting from the courses. In this exhibition, different natural resources of the region can be seen transformed with talent and the recovery of traditional arts, such as weaving, arraiolos and embroidery.
The group then met for a dinner-dinner at the Castle of Alcoutim, which was attended by the executive of the City Council. The mayor of the municipality Francisco Amaral guaranteed the continuity of the courses for the next year, underlining the importance of this type of project in strengthening the local identity.
The conviviality was animated by an accordionist, later accompanied by several trainees. “Occasional artists”, stressed the president, “who also contribute to Alcoutim becoming the council in the country with the least debts. We have artists as good, or better, than the others and who only work for dinner”.
