The Ocean restaurant, at the Vila Vita Parc Hotel, in Porches, was this year awarded a second star in the Michelin Guide Spain and Portugal, thus joining Vila Joya, from Albufeira, which was once again awarded 2 stars, such as as has been happening since 1999.

Also from the Algarve, the restaurants Willie's, from Quarteira, São Gabriel and Henrique Leis, both from Almancil, were distinguished with 1 star.

Out of a total of 12 national restaurants recognized by what is considered the Oscar of the world's restaurant, five are located in the Algarve. It is also in the Algarve region that the only 2 stars in Portugal are located.

However, between 12 and 22 January, the International Gourmet Festival will return to Vila Joya Boutique Resort, which this year brings together a total of 65 Michelin stars, namely the cooks of the 12 Portuguese restaurants distinguished by the Guide. But reputable chefs from France, Germany, Italy and the United States will also be present.

On the night dedicated to "Estrelas de Portugal", on January 13, 13 chefs will prepare the dinner, whose price varies between 350 and 500 euros.

With two Michelin stars, will be Dieter Koschina, host of the festival, and Hans Neuner (Ocean, Vila Vita Parc Hotel, Porches). Also participating this evening are José Cordeiro (Feitoria, Altis Belém Hotel, Lisbon) and Ricardo Costa (The Yeatman, Vila Nova de Gaia) – who last week each received a star in the 2012 edition of the Michelin Guide Spain and Portugal.

The other participants are Vítor Matos (Casa da Calçada, Amarante), Albano Lourenço (Arcadas da Capela, Coimbra), Vicent Farges (Fortaleza do Guincho, Cascais), Henrique Leis (Henrique Leis, Almancil), Benoît Sinthon (Il Gallo d' Oro), Torsten Schulz (São Gabriel, Almancil), Aimé Barroyer (Tavares, Lisbon) and Willie Wurger (Willie's, Quarteira).

José Avillez will also be present, who was ahead of Tavares last year, when this Lisbon restaurant won its first star.

The International Gourmet Festival, which is in its sixth edition, will bring some news: for the first time, the event will not be limited to Vila Joya, passing also through Lisbon and other parts of the country, and there will also be wine tastings, a tournament of golf and a race of go-karts.

With three Michelin stars, Joachim Wissler (Vendôme, Germany) will be present on the night of January 16, Allain Passard (L'Apèrge, France – the 19th), Laurent Gras (L20, United States – the 20th) and Normand Laprise ( Touch, Canada – at 21).

April Bloomfield (USA), Hans Välimäki (Finland), Magnus Nillson (Sweden) and Massimo Bottura (Italy) are some of the names of haute cuisine that will be present at the festival.

Dinner prices, per person, range between 350 and 600 euros.
