Extrication Workshop prepares Algarve Firefighters to intervene in road accidents

It is the objective of several entities worldwide to mitigate the consequences of road accidents

The Albufeira Fire Department and the National Association for Rescue and Extrication (ANSD) organized a Rescue and Extrication Workshop in Albufeira, in which firefighters from all over the Algarve participated.

The objective was to “update, train and assess current best practices to ensure more efficient assistance to victims of road accidents in order to contribute to reducing recorded mortality and morbidity”.

This action was attended by ANSD trainers, global advisors in the areas of rescue and extrication and trauma.

According to ANSR data in mainland Portugal, in the first ten months of 2023, there were 29.399 accidents with victims, resulting in 410 fatalities, 2.071 serious injuries and 34.499 minor injuries.

According to data from the World Health Organization, in the world, every 23 seconds, a person dies on the roads. In 2023, 1 people died on the world's roads.

It is the objective of several entities worldwide to mitigate the consequences of road accidents.

Among the entities, emphasis on «the automobile industry, due to the technological advances achieved, which, on the one hand, in a positive way have been providing greater comfort and protection to vehicle occupants but, on the other hand, pose great challenges to Firefighters responsible for ensuring the rescue of victims of road accidents”.
