Câmara de Portimão and Portimonense have already issued a note of condolence

The Portimão City Council and Portimonense have already issued a note of condolence over the death of António Pacheco.

The former Algarve footballer (ex-Benfica and Sporting) died this Wednesday, March 20, about a week after being admitted following cardiac arrest, during a bowling game with friends, in Praia da Rocha.

In a statement, the Portimão municipality remembers Pacheco as «an excellent athlete in high-competition football».

«António Pacheco not only honored his hometown with his remarkable football skills, but also inspired generations of young local talents to pursue their dreams with determination and passion. His commitment to sport, as well as his easy way of dealing with him, earned him many friendships and esteem, leaving an indelible mark on our community", the Municipality further highlights.

Portimonense, the club for which the footballer played in the 1986/1987 season, describes him as «a man of the land who left too soon, but left a legacy that will never be forgotten».

«At this difficult time, we are heartfelt with the bereaved family and friends, to whom we would like to take the opportunity to offer our deepest condolences», concludes the Algarve team.
