LIVRE candidates for the constituency of Faro yesterday morning, March 7th, visited the projects of the Ecotopia Activa association located in Hortas Urbanas de Tavira, “with the aim of understanding the dynamics that led to the implementation of an approach broadly in line with the principles and values of the party: ecology and citizenship”.
LIVRE highlights that Ecotopia Activa is an “association for sustainable development that promotes active citizenship, self-determination and food empowerment of communities”.
In the space of Hortas Urbanas de Tavira, the BIOMAQ projects are located, a library/collection of agricultural machinery that can be requested by the community, and the “experimental plot”, an experimental, demonstrative and training plot of the garden, with the aim of disseminating sustainable practices for the entire community.
The association also promotes training actions and study visits, actively participates in citizenship actions and produces documentaries that value, share and raise awareness of sustainable ways of being.
The Urban Gardens of Tavira are located in the expanded space of CEAT – Centro de Experimentação Agrária de Tavira, formerly the Posto Agrário de Tavira, founded in 1926.
The historical importance of CEAT for the region's agrarian practices and its impressive biological collection, which includes a series of native species, give a specific depth to this place, which, according to LIVRE, “should be preserved as a space for sharing, training and development of sustainable knowledge and practices”.
LIVRE Algarve states that it believes that “respect for natural and cultural heritage goes hand in hand with active citizenship and that only with their joint development can we face the climate and social emergency situation that we are experiencing”.
Therefore, highlights the candidacy led by Rodrigo Teixeira, “the Ecotopia Activa association is an example of how, at a local level, we can act together for a healthy planet for future generations”.
With this latest campaign action, LIVRE claims to recognize “the importance of citizen organizations for local development”.
