More than 850 messages analyzed by DGC

Eleven cases of infractions and eight offending economic operators were detected in an inspection of advertising about properties, carried out by the Directorate-General for Consumer Affairs (DGC).

As a public consumer protection authority, the DGC carried out an inspection action on advertising for properties in the digital environment, namely on the websites of economic operators and online platforms in the real estate sector (Idealista, Imovirtual, Casa Sapo and OLX).

This inspection action analyzed 852 advertising messages from 73 real estate mediation companies franchised in the main chains in Portugal.

According to the DGC, there is “a high compliance rate, both with regard to the universe of advertising messages analyzed (98%), and with regard to the universe of operators covered (89%)”.

The infractions detected refer to the lack of indication, in the advertisements, of the useful area of the house, which is one of the elements that must be included in advertising for the sale of properties.
