Tavira lights up the City Council building to mark World Rare Disease Day

The Town Hall of Tavira will be lit up in pink tomorrow, February 29th, as a way of marking World Rare Disease Day.

The Tavira Chamber is thus associated with RD-Portugal – Union of Rare Disease Associations of Portugal, an entity that “brings together more than 40 Portuguese rare disease associations and promotes a set of initiatives that aim to raise awareness and alert to the impact of these pathologies in patients”.

«Examples of the work developed are the projects “Inform without Dramatizing”, which demystifies rare diseases in schools, the “RoadShow”, which makes these diseases known to hospitals, and “CUIDARaro”, still in the development phase and one of the winners of the Caixa Social 2023 Awards, in the area of ​​Prevention and Health Care», according to the Tavira Chamber.

It is estimated that rare diseases, as a whole, affect six to eight percent of the Portuguese population, which represents a universe of 600 to 800 thousand people.
