Interreg Next Med launches first call for proposals

The deadline for submitting project proposals is March 28

The “Interreg Next Med” program, funded by the European Union, launched the first call for proposals, with a budget of 103,6 million euros.

«This invitation represents a unique opportunity to finance transnational cooperation projects aimed at catalyzing positive transformations and encouraging sustainable and inclusive development throughout the Mediterranean area», says the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR).

With a view to making the region smarter and more competitive, greener and resilient to climate change, more social and inclusive, the invitation focuses on fundamental themes for both sides of the Mediterranean.

These include strengthening research and innovation capabilities, promoting the growth of SMEs, advancing renewable energy solutions, strengthening adaptation measures to climate change, promoting educational opportunities, ensuring access to quality healthcare and improving local governance processes, among others.

The geographical coverage of the competition extends to more than 100 territories in seven European Union countries and eight partner countries, namely Cyprus, Greece, France, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain and Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine , Tunisia and Turkey.

Recognizing the unique added value of working together across borders for the development of the Mediterranean region, each project must be submitted by a partnership representing a minimum of three organizations from three different eligible countries, including at least one Mediterranean partner country.

A diverse set of stakeholders, including national and regional public authorities, municipalities, non-profit/civil society organisations, universities, research organisations, private companies and other relevant entities can participate in the call.

Depending on the type of projects planned for this competition – thematic, youth-oriented and governance – financial support from the European Union will vary between 500 thousand euros and 2,5 million euros. The EU contribution cannot exceed 89% of the total eligible costs of the project and the co-financing of the project must be at least 11% of the total eligible costs.

The deadline for submitting project proposals is March 28th.
