Farense demarcates itself from racist insults to Chiquinho, League wants exemplary punishment

Farense states that he is guided “by defending and valuing the highest principles of humanism, civility and non-discrimination”

Farense today separated itself from alleged racist insults towards Famalicão winger Chiquinho, in the match of the 21st round of the I Football League, and the Club League demanded exemplary punishment for the fan identified by the authorities.

At the São Luís Stadium, in Faro, the game between Farense and Famalicão, which ended in a draw (1-1), was interrupted between the 80th and 84th minutes, after Chiquinho complained to referee Hélder Malheiro about alleged racist insults coming from the stands.

The PSP identified a supporter from the Algarve, who, through the speaker, called for restraint and stressed that they were “against racism”.

In a statement released after the match, Farense separated itself “from any less appropriate behavior that may have occurred during today's game”, noting that it is guided by “the defense and appreciation of the highest principles of humanism, civility and non-discrimination” .

“Sporting Clube Farense will do everything, together with the competent authorities, to find out what really happened, and do everything so that, if this is the case, the behavior is exemplarily punished”, adds the Algarve emblem, currently ranked seventh in the I League.

In a statement, the Portuguese Professional Football League “strongly condemned any and all types of behavior that jeopardize the inclusive and unifying essence of football”.

The Club League urged the competent authorities to punish, “in an exemplary manner”, the fan responsible for the “improper conduct”, who was identified by the security forces present at the São Luís Stadium, “so that it is clear that in football there is no There is room for racism.”

The act also deserved condemnation from the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Correia, who spoke out through the social network X.

“Zero tolerance to racism! This afternoon's game between Farense and Famalicão, counting for the League, was marred by a fan's racist insult to the player Francisco Jorge 'Chiquinho (Famalicão). The APCVD (Authority to Prevent and Combat Violence in Sports) will act. The case will be handed over to the Public Ministry”, can be read in the message left by João Paulo Correia.

The Players' Union also condemned the racist insults directed at striker Chiquinho, through a statement in which the president of this organization, Joaquim Evangelista, expressed “total solidarity with the Portuguese player”.

“The manifestations of racism in any football stadium are intolerable. I want to express full solidarity with Chiquinho and, as the fan in question has been identified by the authorities, I hope for swift and effective action within a legal framework, which has been revised, precisely, to keep these people away from football and effectively punish their actions. Zero tolerance!”, says the director, leaving the player “and all those, like him, who have been victims of these acts, the unconditional support” of the union.
