Seven restaurants in the Algarve maintain their Michelin stars, two of them with 2 stars, the rest with one. But there are also two new “recommended restaurants”.

The announcement has just been made at the first Michelin Gala exclusive to Portugal, which took place at the Palácio de Congressos dos Salgados, in Albufeira, this Tuesday, February 27th.

The restaurants that remain starred in the Algarve region are: Ocean (by chef Hans Neuner, at Vila Vita, in Alporchinhos, Lagoa) and Vila Joya (Dieter Koshina, Albufeira), both with two stars, the To See Tavira (Luis Brito, Tavira), Al South (Louis Anjos, Palmares, Lagos), Good Good (José Lopes, Carvoeiro, Lagoa), Taste (Heinz Beck, at Conrad Algarve, in Almancil, Loulé) and also the Vista (João Oliveira, at the Hotel Bela Vista, in Praia da Rocha, Portimão), all with one star.

From this list came the Views, from Vila Nova de Cacela, due to the fact that the Head Rui Silvestre left the restaurant in December.

As for the new recommended restaurants, which, as Catarina Furtado said at the Gala, «for the simple fact that they are mentioned by the Guide they are among the best in the World», are Noélia (Noélia Jerónimo, Cabanas de Tavira) and Numa (Nuno Martins, Portimão). A Head Algarvian, who is now also a television star due to his participation as a judge on Master Chef Portugal, received one of the biggest applauses of the night.

In national terms, Portugal has, in total, four more Michelin stars (totaling 31 restaurants with one Michelin star, for “great cuisine, worth stopping by”) and eight with two stars (“excellent cuisine, worth the detour” ), one more than in the last edition (the new one is Antiqvvm, by Vitor Matos, Porto).

With regard to Green Stars (special commitment to sustainable gastronomy), the Algarve almost won one of them, as one of the winners was the Malhadinha Nova restaurant (João Sousa, Albernoa), an Alentejo estate that belongs to the Algarve Soares family.

This year, the Sala awards (Pedro Marques, from Yetman, Vila Nova de Gaia), Sommelier awards (Leonel Nunes, Il Gallo d'Oro, Funchal) and Young chef awards (Rita Magro, Blind, Porto) were also awarded for the first time. .
