Tavira offers menstrual eco-kits to participants in the Fora do Lixo project

Project encourages the use of non-disposable products

Tavira City Council is offering menstrual eco-kits to all those enrolled in the Fora do Lixo – Axis 2 “Menstrual Products” project, the Tavira municipality announced this Friday, marking World Environmental Education Day.

Each project participant was given a kit consisting of «1 menstrual cup, 2 reusable sanitary pads, 1 information guide and 1 reusable bag».

The project “aims to reduce the use of disposable menstrual products, encouraging the use of reusable menstrual products; demystify the topic of menstruation and the use of reusable menstrual products; inform the community, in particular the female community, about healthier, more economical and sustainable ways of managing menstruation», according to Câmara de Tavira.

The municipality highlighted the role of Fora do Lixo “in promoting environmental protection, gender equality, the reduction of inequalities and sustainable production and consumption”.

“Educating for the environment means educating for a more active and informed citizenship in order to contribute to a more sustainable and egalitarian future”, he concluded.
