João Campos Stadium and Quinta da Palmeira synthetics already have new lighting

Investment was around 700 thousand euros

The João Campos Stadium, in Paderne, and the synthetic stadiums at Quinta da Palmeira, in Albufeira, already have new lighting, an investment of around 700 thousand euros.

«We want sport for everyone and for that it is necessary that the fields are open at night too. The electrical structures were already showing some wear and tear and we want everyone to have access to sport, but with the appropriate conditions. Alongside this, we could not forget the remaining sports spaces that respond to the needs of our clubs, where athletes are born, where great values are developed both for sport and for the community and which therefore must have decent spaces», he says Cristiano Cabrita, councilor for Sports and Youth.

For his part, José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, adds that, in the case of the João Campos Stadium, the work carried out «made it possible to repair all the anomalies existing in this venue, exchanging equipment at the end of its life, with suitable equipment that allows the use of the space for night-time sports».

«It was an investment that was necessary, just like in the other stadiums and sports facilities in the municipality», he says.

«Both the Quinta da Palmeira Synthetic Field process and the Guia FC process», says José Carlos Rolo, «will allow sports venues to be provided with the best lighting conditions for sports practice, with the appropriate levels for professional competition, as well how to improve energy efficiency by reducing energy costs by more than 50%. This change will also allow for the elimination of annual maintenance costs on components and electrical material of around 10.000 euros per year».

Meanwhile, work is underway to requalify the playing field at the Polidesportivo de Olhos de Água, which includes the construction of a children's playground and the installation of a metal roof in the existing canvas area. Likewise, the renovation work on the playground at the Polidesportivo da Quinta da Palmeira includes the construction of a children's playground and the installation of fitness equipment. The works have already started and have a deadline of 60 days for completion.

As for the Polidesportivo de Ferreiras, the award process for the repair of external pavements that are in disrepair is underway. It is also expected that the works relating to the requalification of the playing field and surroundings of the Camping Park Polidesportivo playing field will come to an end before 2024.

In total, improving the lighting of the municipality's sports facilities amounts to around 700 thousand euros.
