From concerts to craft shows: Tavira celebrates Christmas and New Year with entertainment

Program has activities until January 7th

Concerts, craft shows, street entertainment, culinary demonstrations and fireworks, the Municipality of Tavira will celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve with a packed program. 

In addition to the shows, on the 2nd, at the Municipal Market, the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Mediterranean Diet, with a culinary demonstration “The Mediterranean Diet at the Table” by chef Arnaldo Correia, pastry chef Teresa Chagas and Escanção João Arcanjo. This will be followed at 12:00 by the performance of Rancho Folclórica de Santo Estêvão.

Also, on the 16th, at 10:30 am, a Christmas culinary demonstration will take place at the Municipal Market.

The former auction space, organized by the associations ASTA, Almadrava and Albacora with the support of the Municipality, hosts, from the 1st to the 3rd, from the 8th to the 10th, from the 16th to the 23rd, the 30th of December and the 6th and 7th of January, between the 10:00 am and 18:00 pm, and, on December 24th, between 10:00 am and 13:00 pm, Christmas and New Year craft shows.

Also at this location, Christmas on the streets will take place on the 16th, at 11am, by the Jubilate Deo Choir. The Association for the Integrated Development of Baixa da Cidade (UAC) also promotes different initiatives related to the time.

On the 8th, at 11 am, the city center welcomes Santa Claus. Between 00 and 8, in Praça da República, the little ones can visit Santa Claus's House.

The festivities continue with street entertainment, on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and 24th, between 10am and 00pm.

With the aim of encouraging consumption in local commerce, the Baixa de Tavira Association holds the usual Christmas Competition, between December 1st and January 5th. The competition includes weekly draws and a final prize on January 5th.

From the 2nd to the 30th, the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library promotes the “No Christmas without Books” initiative. The activity consists of suggesting reading so that there is no shortage of books this season.

Between the 19th and 21st, the Library also promotes the “Christmas Readings” project. Aimed at children between 5 and 12 years old, the project involves organizing sessions that encourage reflection on human, ethical and environmental values, as well as the importance of fraternal coexistence.

On the 22nd, at 21:30 pm, the Tavira Musical Band will take place at the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, and the following day, at the same place and time, the Christmas Concert will be held by the Orquestra do Algarve and choir.

On the 23rd, at 10 am, the city center is treated to a street party by Al Fanfarre. On the night of December 00st to January 31st, the party takes place, from 1:22 pm, at Praça da República, with the group Função Publika. At midnight, on the Bridge of Discoveries, the pyromusical show welcomes the new year. The entertainment continues, at Praça da República.

Closing tonight's celebration is the music of DJ Jinga.

 

 

The Reis concert on January 6th, at 21:30 pm, at the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, with the Damas de São Carlos (quintet – chamber string orchestra).

On the 7th, at 15pm, Mercado da Ribeira will host the XXXVII Charolas Festival, which will see the participation of groups from across the municipality.

The Municipal Firefighters of Tavira are once again carrying out tradition by creating yet another Christmas Nativity scene with hundreds of figures, which can be visited until January 7th.
