On December 4th, Lagoa City Council began the renovation of the pavilion known as “Amigos de Lagoa”, next to the Basic School. The works will cost around 340 thousand euros.
The objective is to bring this space, which was once heavily used, back to life, putting it at the service of the population. This requalification will allow the Municipality of Lagoa to have another sports facility, providing a greater response to requests made by associations.
After requalifying the pavilion, the Municipality of Lagoa intends to make it available for combat sports, such as judo, karate, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, among others.
According to the Lagoa City Council, «the pavilion will now have conditions for sports, being equipped with women's and men's changing rooms, a storage room, an entrance hall with an office area, bathrooms and a central enclosure».
This intervention is the result of a collaboration protocol signed between the Municipality of Lagoa and the Centro Popular de Lagoa, on the 12th of March, through which this entity provided the Municipality with land with an area of 7 square meters. It will make it possible to implement a large part of the sports component of the Lagoa Urban Park.
This is a plot that previously belonged to the extinct association “Amigos de Lagoa” and which became the responsibility of the municipality for a period of 50 years.
