Swimming: Algarve International Meeting takes place this weekend in Albufeira

Meeting starts this Friday, November 10th, and ends on Sunday, 12th

The Albufeira Municipal Swimming Pools will host the 10th edition of the Algarve International Meeting on the 11th, 12th and 9th of November.

The short pool competition (25 meters) will feature the participation of 300 athletes from 43 sports delegations: 39 Portuguese and four foreign.

The event will have a format of qualifiers, finals and direct finals on an absolute basis.

José Carlos Rolo, president of Albufeira City Council, highlights that «this is an event that we are very proud of.
We are proud, as it demonstrates the great organizational capacity of the municipality, both in terms of human resources and logistics and in the quality of the infrastructure inherent to holding the race».

The mayor also states that «Albufeira has already given clear evidence of the importance of sport for the Municipality», highlighting «the relevance of sports tourism for the local economy during the low tourist season».

«Albufeira, moreover, has the necessary conditions to host high-level sporting initiatives», states Cristiano Cabrita.

The vice-president and councilor responsible for sports highlights that «the relevance of the practice is undeniable
sports for the Municipality, if Albufeira were not a candidate for European City of Sports 2026».

The mayor highlights that Albufeira has “sports infrastructure indoor and outdoors prepared to host major sporting challenges, as well as good weather conditions and hotel capacity to accommodate teams, sports technicians and companions, whether in the holding of isolated events, as is the case, or in the case of sports internships».

The mayors of Albufeira believe that this sport can have a great impact on the image of Albufeira as a destination for holding major sporting events.

The Algarve International Swimming Meeting is recognized by the FPN and FINA as one of the qualifying events for the main national and international competitions, in obtaining marks and individual qualifications to represent athletes in major international competitions.

The event is organized by the Portuguese Swimming Federation in partnership with the Municipality of Albufeira and Futebol Clube de Ferreiras.
