Khumoyun Sultanov wins first title of the year in Vale do Lobo

The Vale do Lobo Open II was the 17th and last men's ITF M25 to take place in Portugal this year

Khomoyun Sultanov won, this Sunday, November 26th, the tennis tournament “Vale do Lobo Open II”, ITF M25, raising the fourth title of his career and the first this year.

One day after beating the big favorite Henrique Rocha, the best tennis player from Uzbekistan beat Frenchman Jules Marie (253rd) in the final with scores of 6-4 and 7-6(11).

After three lost finals, one of them in a decision debut on the Challenger circuit, Sultanov left Vale do Lobo with the fourth title of his career in the ninth final played.

For Jules Marie, the duel was the 30th completion of a competition and he was unable to add another trophy to the 17 already collected – three of them in Portugal (Porto Open 2023 and two ITF in Guimarães in 2013).

The last meeting of the fortnight lasted 2h08 and had nine service breaks between the two protagonists, five in favor of the winner.

Sultanov (sixth seed) opened the match with a 4-0 win, saw Marie (second favorite) equalize in four games, but was able to stop the 32-year-old opponent's recovery in the opening half.

In the second, it was the Frenchman who took the lead (3-1) and the 25-year-old Asian tennis player needed to offset not only this disadvantage but also four set points to avoid a third set.

The Vale do Lobo Open II was the 17th and last men's ITF M25 to take place in Portugal this year, which ends with the eighth ATP Challenger Tour tournament in Maia, which kicked off this Sunday.
