The Altura Artisanal and Recreational Fishing Association (APALA) has just been created in the Eastern Algarve, with Altura as its headquarters, in the municipality of Castro Marim.

APALA promotes sustainable and recreational fishing, environmental education, the appreciation of fishing culture and pedagogical action for all ages.

It works mainly to preserve this activity, ensuring that it “remains an important part of the Eastern Algarve for future generations”.

On the pedagogical side, the association focuses on training in the area of fishing for all ages, through protocols that aim at collaboration between several training entities.

The objectives of APALA, as a non-profit association, are to «increasingly develop everything that was previously left by Altura fishermen and make a better and noble association».

APALA declares itself an “environmentally friendly association” and “concerned with the future not only of the sea, but also of subsequent generations”.

«Being an agent of change in promoting environmental education and local development is one of the aspects that the new association intends to contribute and give more emphasis to», add those responsible.

Last Saturday, November 25th, the association's first action in the area of environmental preservation took place. APALA members rolled up their sleeves and cleaned up the trash in the area covered by the association, Alagoa beach.

«APALA is committed to all actions that contribute to the promotion of environmental education, and this action was the first of many», they guarantee.
